The Seekho Kamao Yojana, officially known as Seekho Aur Kamao Yojana, is a Central Government skill development scheme run by the Ministry of Minority Affairs. Launched in 2013-14, its main goal is to make minority youth employable by giving them industry-relevant training and decent job or self-employment opportunities.
Every year, thousands of young men and women from Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain and Parsi communities get free training, monthly stipend and placement help through this scheme. In the last 10 years, more than 4 lakh youth have been trained and placed under Seekho Aur Kamao Yojana.
If you belong to any of the six notified minority communities and your family income is low, this scheme can open the door to a stable career without spending a single rupee on training.
What is Seekho Kamao Yojana?
Seekho Aur Kamao Yojana is a 100% centrally funded scheme. The government selects experienced Project Implementing Agencies (PIAs) – NGOs, trusts, societies or companies – through an open tender process. These agencies set up training centres across the country and provide skill training in more than 80 trades that have good demand in the market.
Training duration varies from 3 months to 12 months depending on the course. After training, the agency also helps candidates get jobs or start their own small business.
Objective of the Scheme
The main objectives of Seekho Kamao Yojana are:
- To improve employment and self-employment among minority youth
- To reduce educational and skill gap between minority and general population
- To provide certified skill training that meets National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF)
- To ensure at least 70% placement after training
- To preserve traditional arts and crafts of minority communities through special courses
